Restaurants in plant nurseries

Eating at garden centres is becoming increasingly popular. I have had the most wonderful meals in nurseries around the world.

Sometimes it is just a burger bar and sandwiches and sometimes it is a full blown restaurant.  It you haven't tried eating at a nursery, I recommend it and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.  For sure it will be beautiful and have lots of plants and flowers all around.

We had brunch here this past weekend, it was fabulous.  I had their famous "Beet Burger".  Delicious.

This recipe and picture is from the Post Punk Kitchen

1 1/4 cups cooked, cooled brown rice

1 cup cooked brown or green lentils, cooled, drained well( you could substitute black beans as they do at Tiny Boxwoods)

1 cup shredded beets

1/2 teaspoon salt

Fresh black pepper

1 teaspoon thyme, rubbed between your fingers

1/2 teaspoon ground fennel (or finely crushed fennel seed)

1 teaspoon dry mustard

3 tablespoons very finely chopped onion

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons smooth almond butter

1/2 cup very fine breadcrumbs ( you can leave this out)

Olive oil for the pan

Peel beets and shred with the shredder attachment of your food processor, then set aside. Change the attachment to a metal blade. Pulse the brown rice, shredded beets and lentils about 15 to 20 times, until the mixture comes together, but still has texture. It should look a lot like ground meat. 

Grill until done.  Yummy!!!!!

You are my Sunshine

I am back in Dallas after a a brief stint in glorious California.  I have had nothing but sunshine for the last couple of weeks and can't tell you how great that is.  The weather in France is okay now, but when I left we had had three months of rain.

To celebrate the sun, I have gone to the park to see the gorgeous azaleas. I have also gone to the nursery to buy plants for my balcony. Mine do not look quite like this but they will, I promise. Having a balcony garden is fabulous, you can just walk out the sliding doors and water your plants, so easy.....................
